WELCOME TO CASA IOANA

The Casa Ioana Association joins FEANTSA's “Ending Homelessness” campaign which coincides with the European Year on Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.

Key messages of the Campaign

The central message of this campaig/n is that homelessness can, and should be ended. In order to achieve this, FEANTSA calls for the development of integrated homelessness strategies, which address the following goals:

• No one sleeping rough

• No one living in emergency accommodation for longer than is an 'emergency'

• No one living in transitional accommodation longer than is required for successful move-on

• No one leaving an institution without housing options

• No young people becoming homeless as a result of the transition to independent living

Key objectives of the Campaign at national and European level

• A clear movement away from managing homelessness to ending it
• Clear European targets for ending homelessness, such as an EU-wide commitment to end street homelessness by 2015
• A useful strategic framework at EU level to move towards ending homelessness (such as the collection of comparable data on the extent of homelessness and poor housing, and annual updates from Member States on action taken and progress made towards ending homelessness)
• The development of strategies with the aim of ending homelessness in European cities/countries
• Better understanding of how to tackle homelessness amongst policy makers

Casa Ioana is Bucharest’s leading charity for homeless families. Our services run day and night, every day of the year to help homeless people have the opportunities to improve their quality of life.

We support homeless people in their journey back inside from social exclusion by opening the door to safe temporary housing and a wide range of support services. Casa Ioana provides more help for homeless people in gaining life skills than any other charity – from getting back to work through to independent living skills.

Preventing homelessness is also very important to us. Our temporary accommodation provides safe accommodation for 90 vulnerable people and our staff-team has worked with thousands of people at risk – including the vast majority who have lived on the street.

The range and quality of services provided by our ACASĂ Programme are unique, as are the needs of those we exist to assist.

“In all my experience, I have never yet met a homeless person who has told me that he or she has adopted this way of life.  I have met many though, who have told me that they have no opportunities to change and have adapted to living on the streets.”

Ian Tilling, M.B.E. – President of Casa Ioana
